Painting with Acrylics

If speed and ease of use is desired, acrylic painting may be your thing. Acrylics provide simple clean-up and no solvent odors to deal with. Paintings dry in minutes and can be varnished and framed quickly.Repainting a passage is a breeze. In this class you will learn the fundamentals of art and various techniques for acrylic painting. We will use our knowledge to create  several different paintings and develop our skills.

Painting the Portrait Class

In this portrait painting class, Beaman will lecture with drawn or painted demonstrations.  This six week class will cover portrait painting.  We will study the facial features, the head in perspective, lighting, planning and a survey of master portraits.  Prepare to do sketches with charcoal or graphite.  Students will have the option to use any painting media (oil, acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil, pastels). Cole will demonstrate with charcoal and oils throughout the class.  Critiques will be provided.

Alla Prima (one shot) Painting in Oils

Learn alla prima techniques for oil painting. Alla Prima means “at first” in Italian. In oil paintings this technique means that the final picture surface does not rely on earlier or previous layers for effect.  Paintings are often done in one sitting.  The effect is the important piece of this painting puzzle. The painting can be worked on again or even over-painted but the desire it to always leave the “alla prima” look to the surface. In this class you will learn how to do this. As always, I will teach many art principles as we practice making alla prima paintings.
