Palette Knife Painting
Workshop  10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fee: $50.

Tom says:

Using a knife forces you to simplify and improve your color sense; details must be omitted because they can’t easily be done. Knife painting makes you distill and paint the essence of your subject.  If you feel your paintings get overworked or you want to get back to basics, this class can help … and it’s also fun!

You’ll learn the basics of color mixing, applying paint and creating the effect of light and shadow

101 Painting Tips

Tom Georgon’s New Book

Tom’s 25,000+ word new book, “101 Painting Tips to Help You Improve Your Art Now,”

Although Tom’s famous “nags” are here, he explains the “whys” of things in more detail. He also provides many more tips, 106 in all!

The tips are arranged in the general order of the painting process: Choosing Materials, Preparing to Paint, Improving Your Craft, Improving Your Productivity, Finding a Subject, Planning the Picture, Painting the Picture, Solving Common Problems, and Judging the Result, plus bonus tips on Dealing With Other Art-Related Issues.

He also often suggests ways for you to apply a tip, including item lists, questions lists, and processes to try. Tom wishes he had a book like this when he started painting!

These insights are the result of almost 40 years of painting experience and are available to you at a cost of around 28 cents a tip. This book incorporates information from his 4400-word booklet, “Seeing Like an Artist: An Introduction for Beginners and Non-Artists on Finding and Expressing Your Visions,” so those of you who bought that booklet will get a 20% discount on the new one.
